We’re kicking off a new series on early Church texts with the Didache (Greek for “Teaching”), formally, “The Lord’s Teaching through the Twelve Apostles to the Nations.” Brief, practical, and anonymously compiled, the Didache gives an unparalleled window into how the earliest Christian communities actually lived: ethics, baptism, fasting days, the Eucharist, traveling ministers, local leadership, and watchfulness for the Lord’s return. This remarkable document, which might predate several New Testament books, is divided into four main sections:
